Brisbane is a wonderful city with plenty to do on the shores of its lovely river - but it's also a great place to hire a motorhome and tour a little further afield for a weekend getaway. There is so much to explore in every direction and you don't need to spend hours on the road before arriving at something beautiful, inspiring or relaxing - or sometimes all three. Here are some ideas for your next trip.

Lamington National Park

It's really hard to sum up just how beautiful Lamington National Park is - or to get your head around the fact that this UNESCO World Heritage list (part of Gondwana Rainforests of Australia) dates back more than 225 million years. The whole area is known for its stunning waterfalls and over 160 kms of walking trails, including the 21.4 km  Border track, and the Caves circuit which has breathtaking views out over Coomera Valley. Antarctic Beech, wildflowers and rare wildlife thrive in this protected area making it fascinating for nature lovers. It's a perfect weekend getaway if you want to remember just how awe inspiring Mother Nature really is.

Mooloolaba

Mooloolaba is perfect for families wanting a fun motorhome holiday. Or even if you're looking for a relaxing laid back romantic getaway for two. There's plenty of outdoor fun (think surfing, paddleboarding, fishing, strolling, picnicking) and the beach is truly stunning. Mooloolaba Wharf precinct is lovely as are all the shops and restaurants in the area and there are plenty of activities such as Sea Life Aquarium (formerly known as Underwater World), the Ginger Factory,  Eumundi Markets or amazing diving opportunities. Kids will love poking around the rock pools at the Northern end of the beach.

Toowoomba

If you fancy a country campervan drive - head towards Toowoomba and the surrounding area. The town itself has a great historical walk, a theatre, a beautiful art gallery, and plenty of wonderful garden action. There's also a great coffee scene and some pretty fabulous street art to seek out. In the surrounding area you'll find rolling plains, quirky country towns, pretty sunflower farms and quaint hamlets. See what takes your fancy, find a suitable holiday park or freedom camping spot, park up and relax in that inland country air.

These are only a fraction of the options within an easy drive of Brisbane. Fly into Brisbane airport, pick up your motorhome then head towards whatever takes your fancy - beaches, countryside, islands, theme parks, tropical rainforests are all in easy reach so there’s something for everyone.
